So, from November 1st until February 1st, you have the ability to restore your status as a student and still be able to continue legally studying in Canada. The only problem with a restoration of status, even though you can remain in the country and have a decision made within Canada, is that while you're in the restoration status, you're supposed to technically stop what you're doing. So, even though it allows you to stay in the country, it doesn't allow you to continue doing what you're doing. A better example would be a work permit. Let's say your work permit is valid until November 1st, 2017, and you look at your status document on November 2nd and realize your work permit has expired. You have until February 1st to restore your status as a worker.
